Music Therapy

Music therapy is a psychotherapeutic practice using music, sound and talking to enable individuals to explore their emotional landscape, find meaning, become curious and promote positive change.

In sessions the music might be improvised or we might work with favourite songs and lyrics that provoke thought and feeling. Songwriting is an option. One does not need any prior experience of playing a musical instrument to be able to take part in music therapy sessions. My job is to support clients in their discovery of their inner music and sound and to contextualise those sounds to open up more possibilities for communication and relationships, to others and the world around them. We form a therapeutic relationship over time and I endeavour to meet my clients where they are and provide a safe nurturing space for them.

I approach my work with humanistic or person-centred thinking and often draw on psychodynamic theory to support and contextualise what is going on for my clients.
